The “Advopolis” initiative was initiated in 2013 by Mr. Dirk Dielen, who at present also acts as  Hon.Consul of the Republic of India within  the Flemish provinces. The Consulate General is also located in the Antwerp office of Advopolis.

Marc - Advopolis

Marc A.Huybrechts

Marc A. Huybrechts obtained this Dr. of laws degree at the Catholic University of Leuven with magna cum Laude ( High Honours) in 1964 and continued his law studies in the United States as a Fulbright grantee at the universities of Princeton and Berkely where in 1966 he obtained the Master of Laws degree.

Career at the Antwerp Bar

Marc A. Huybrechts was registered on the list of trainees at the Bar in 1964.

Marc A. Huybrechts was a member of the Antwerp Bar Council and assumed the function of director of the Antwerp Training school for legal trainees.

During four years he was  a member of the general assembly of the  Flemish Law Society.

In 2005 he was appointed as auxiliary justice at the Court of Appeals in Antwerp which function he continued to assume till his compulsory retirement age in 2008.

In 2013 he started Marc A. Huybrechts bvba Law office till  2021 when he joined the Advopolis law office in Antwerp.

Academic career

Marc A. Huybrechts was appointed in 1986 as a professor of maritime law at the Leuven University where he taught maritime law and marine insurance law till his academic retirement age in 2006.

In 1987 he was also appointed as a part-time professor of maritime law at the University of Antwerp.

He published numerous maritime and transport law articles and taught as a visiting professor both in Belgium  and abroad.

Consular career

Mr. Marc A. Huybrechts was appointed in 2008 as honorary consul general of India for the Flemish provinces having his residence in Antwerp.

In August 2021 he was discharged from this consular function  with Honours.

John - Advopolis

John Stoop

Mr. John Stoop  read law at the UFSIA ( Antwerp) and continued his legal studies  at the Free University of Brussels and  joined   the Antwerp Bar as an advocate/attorney at law since 1971.

He has been admitted as a fully qualified advocate on the lawyers’ list of the Antwerp Bar  in 1975 .

He originated from a well-established Antwerp family of Antwerp entrepreneurs/merchants.

Amongst others he was president of the board of directors of the then Nafta Company, and in addition he was president of the Chamber of Commerce of Antwerp and Waasland region from 2002 till 2008.

On top of that, he also was a board member of the Flemish employers organisation VOKA-VEV.

In 2006 he was appointed as chairman of the Federation of Belgian Chambers of Commerce, a function which he assumed till June 2016.

At the same time he became a board member of the Euro Chambers and deputy- president of the organisation of African Chambers of Commerce. (CPCCAF).

In addition, since 2009 he was  president of the Flemish organisation for Mediation and Arbitration (VOBA). Mr John Stoop was  also a  director at the Antwerp World Diamond Centre.

He disposes of a very large and elaborate professional network, both  on national level  and abroad.

He is experienced in the fields of commercial and   company law as well as in arbitration in its  broadest meaning.

Mr. John Stoop was also honorary consul of Kazakhstan.

Mr. John stoop has been honoured with the title of officer in the Order of King Leopold as well as commander of the Order of the Crown, both distinctions being  granted by the Belgian authority.

Mr. John Stoop is an honorary member of the Antwerp Rotary club.

Leo - Advopolis

Leo BOUTELIGIER

Mr. Leo Bouteligier obtained his degree of Master of Laws with Honours at the Catholic University of Leuven in 1972.

He is an advocate/attorney at law at the Bar of Antwerp since  October 3 1972.

Mr. Leo Boutiligier was a member of the Antwerp Bar Council from 1989 till 1993 and again from 1996 till 2000.

Thereafter he was elected as Dean /President of the Antwerp Bar Association and assumed this function from 2008 till 2010.

He is chairing a commission within  the Federation of European Bar  Associations in which capacity he gave conferences in Marseille, Florence and Kraków.

Eric VAN der MUSSELE

Eric Van der Mussele holds a law degree from the University of Antwerp with Honours (UIA 1976) ) He also obtained a certification in maritime and inland shipping law (UFSIA 1976), as well as the certificate for special training in juvenile and youth law and a certificate for Cassation proceedings in criminal cases.

Eric has been a lawyer registered with the Antwerp Bar since 1976. He did his traineeship with Mr Georges Franck, then Dean of the Belgian Bar Association. In 1986 he founded the law office Van der Mussele & Vanden Bosch, in which he  a  manager partner till today.

Eric is committed to provide efficient quality legal assistance for every litigant. He specialized in public law (civil service law, planning, zoning and environmental law, …), education and media law, children’s and juveniles rights and youth law, real estate issues and contract law.

In the context of second-line assistance (pro Deo/pro bono), Eric is committed to assist minors and juveniles. He teaches the juvenile law course in the special juvenile law program of the Order of Flemish Bar Associations OVB. He was co-founder of the Antwerp Youth Permanence and its responsible agent within the Bar (1985 to 2019).

Eric is chairman of the Union of Youth Lawyers (co-founder in 2009). He is a member of the  board of editors of the Law  Journal for Youth and Minors’ Rights (TJK).

As a legal expert, he contributed to various EU projects for minors (2016/2022). He is the author of various publications and regularly  lectures in Belgium and abroad.

He is an elected member of the Bar Council of the Antwerp Bar Association (now 12th year) and of the General Assembly of the Flemish Bar Council (OVB) (now 13th year). He held numerous positions within the Order of Flemish Bars (OVB) (including chairman of the Juridische Bijstand Bureau, Legal Assistance Committee, traineeship committee and the Youth Law section, member of the OVB Committees for Public Law, Quality Assurance, CJB front-line chairpersons and Youth Law, and the Special Training Youth Law Working Group).

He represented the OVB within the NCRK – the National Commission for the Childrens’ Rights.

Mr Eric  Van der Mussele was appointed deputy justice of the peace in the sixth canton of Antwerp, a position he has held ever since.

He is a board member of various schools for normal and special education.

Patrick - Advopolis

Patrick KORTLEVEN

Mr.Patrick Kortleven obtained his candidate in law degree in 1977 at the UFSIA  college and his master of laws degree  magna cum Laude ( High Honours) in 1980 at the Antwerp University Institution.

During that same year he joined the Antwerp Bar.

Patrick Kortleven is an advocate/ attorney at l since 1980 and has also served  as a a receiver or trustee of bankruptcies from 1982 onwards till 2015. He  was also  appointed as an deputy  Justice of the Peace in the district of Brasschaat from 1992 onwards, which function he still occupies  at the present time.

Since 1988 to  the present time, he is also chairing  the appeal board of the Royal Belgian Football Club. At the same time he was also the former secretary of the legal committee of the Royal Belgian Football Club from 1987 till 1988.

He is past assistant governor of  the Rotary Club  district  2170 and past president of Rotary Club Antwerpen Ring.

He is an  author and member of the board of editors of the Permanent Manual for Legal Experts (edited by Kluwer) and  he is a regular speaker at conferences aimed at  legal experts. ( ABEX, FEBEX)

Yolanda VANDEN BOSCH

Mrs Yolanda Vanden Bosch obtained her law degree in 1976 with Honours at the Antwerp University (UIA) as well as a certification  in maritime and inland shipping law at the University Faculties Saint Ignace in Antwerp (UFSIA). Her study project on ‘Inland shipping 1975 – Legal considerations regarding  strikes in inland shipping and its consequences’ was awarded the prize of the Belgian Study Center for Inland Shipping.

From 1976 to 1979, Yolanda was a in-house corporate lawyer at CMB/AMI – Compagnie Maritime Belge / Agence Maritime International.

In 1979 Yolanda became a teaching assistant in public international law and  international public law institutions at the University of Antwerp. She directed her special attention with publications  to human rights issues and the European Convention on Human Rights.

In 1986 Mrs Yolanda Bosch joined the Antwerp Bar and has been a lawyer-manager at the Van der Mussele – Vanden Bosch law office to this day.

At the same time, Yolanda remained active in the academic world. From 1986 to 2019, she was successively part-time affiliated with KVH Antwerp, Lessius Hogeschool, Faculties of Applied Linguistics and Commercial Sciences, and KU Leuven/Antwerp Campus, Faculty of Arts, Master of Multilingual Communication and Master of Journalism. She is still a lecturer and coordinator of the legal module of the Legal Translators  and Interpreters  (GVT) course at KU Leuven.

She has published numerous legal contributions, and lectured regularly locally and abroad and participated in 14 EU projects on legal court translation/interpretation. She produced the first study report on legal interpreters/translators, court employees: training and organization of the profession and contributed to the training film ‘The court interpreter’ (both selected by the King Baudouin Foundation – Project Call for Justice in Motion 1998/2000). (publications/lectures)

Between 2009 and 2022 she also taught the practical course ‘Citizens and civil administration’ in the Business Management program/ Paralegal studies at the Karel de Grote University College in Antwerp.

She is secretary-general of the Flemish Jurists Association (VJV) and board member of the VVN – Association for the United Nations.

Dirk - Advopolis

Dirk Dielen

Mr. Dirk Dielen obtained his law degree at the free University of Brussels in 1987 and has been a member of the Antwerp Bar without interruption ever since. He did his pupillage at the law office of the former  national Dean and President of the Belgian Law Society and the Bar of Antwerp.

He continued his traineeship with Mr. Herman Lange,  former Dean of the Antwerp Bar.

He holds a special master degree in maritime sciences as well as in maritime and inland navigation law.

Since 1990 he is registered as a member of the Order of Antwerp Advocates  and for a period of time he. was  research fellow at the law faculty of the Free University of Brussels.

Mr. Dirk Dielen is the founder and the inspiring promoter of the Advopolis  law office.

He was president of the Flemish Conference at the Bar of Antwerp in 2017 – 2018 and he is  a three times member of the board of governors  of this professional organisation.

 Four times he was   elected as a  member of the Antwerp Bar  Council from 2013 till 2017.

He is a member of numerous associations and organisations and he was president and chairman of a good number of them.

On top of that he is also a  member of the Board of Governors of Voka, ( Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Antwerp and  the Waasland region)  since 2015.

Additionally, he was appointed as  deputy Justice of the Peace in Antwerp.

For many years he was a member of the Commission for International Relations at the Bar of Antwerp and during many years he assumed many representative functions both nationally and internationally.

Mr. Dirk Dielen was appointed in 2022 as honorary consul general of the Republic of India for the Flemish provinces having his residence in Antwerp.
